Thanksgiving Day….massiel and baby juliet

fav time of year. But gosh dangggg is it cold. Thanksgiving was such a homey day. We had 3 dinners…………….. haha its a blessing and a curse that the members here love us so much. But i truly am so thankful for them. Its different to be away from home during this time of year..But so cool to be able to celebrate family, our blessings, and the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, and see how the season reflects upon the people here.

We had a special week for sure. Last week Fermoso and i were eating at our fav spot, La Costa (totally beats the one in btown….sorry folks) and we met this guy Jose Luis. We just chatted for a bit, he told us that he lives in Boise, but he’s working on a construction sight here in Pokey, so 5/7 days of the week, he’s down here. We ended up getting his contact info cause he said he would be interested in learning more about our message. So on Tuesday we met him at the church building to give him a tour and share a message. not even 5 minutes into the tour/lesson he just starts bawling. We were looking at a picture of Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane and talking about how Christ has felt everything we’ve ever felt…..Jose told us that his wife just left him and so he’s been struggling a lot. We also took him into the chapel to talk about the sacrament, but for most of the time we just sat in the pews in silence while he cried and prayed his catholic prayers…haha it was kinda different, but the spirit was so strong. Its crazy how distinct the spirit is when you’re in the chapel. So easy to recognize and feel…We know that Jose Luis forsure felt it too. We had some recent converts with us that bore powerful testimony of their experience with baptism and then we asked him if he would follow the example of the Savior by being baptized when he came to know that these things were true. He said he totally would. It was such an amazing lesson. We’re meeting with him again tonight, so im excited!! it might get kinda difficult with him being out of town on the weekends..but i know it’ll all work out how its supposed to.

This weekend the branch is putting on a “Posada.” Its a traditional Mexican party/event to celebrate the birth of Christ. I dont know everything about it, but all the branch members are excited, so im excited. aaaand they said they’ll be tamales and posole… so i can see why their pumped. haha the majority of the hispanics here in pokey are from mexico, so we’re hopin it will be a perfect opportunity to get investigators and their friends acquainted with the church.
fav scripture of the week: 1 peter 3:15
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
We’re so blessed to have this gospel in our lives….”the hope that is in you” truly does stand out…be ready to share it with others!
love you all.
con amor,
hermana brown
