this was soooooo good!! ahhh, wish i could explain my joy through typed words on a screen…
first off, theres too much snow here. its kind of insane.
This week we had a zone service activity where we helped the Millers move (they’re a less-active family in one of our english wards) and it snowed the entireeee time. So that made things interesting. haha but it was so awesome. There was about 12 of us missionaries. We had so much fun….Then i got to give a talk on “the joys of service” on Sunday, so it was perfect. I’ve found that losing yourself in the service of others truly brings the most pure sense of happiness. its the best.
So last monday we had a little miracle. That morning when we were planning sister cole randomly remembered a girl from the branch that they were suggested to go visit last transfer but never did. Jessica ! So monday night we decided to go and visit her and hollllllyyyyy wow. she is the best. She’s 19 years old. The cutest girl ever. And she literally radiates the spirit. But she hasnt been to church since middle school which is when she was baptized. We talked with her for like an hour & a half and she just poured her little heart out to us about how awhile back ago she was praying to run into missionaries…She’s been dying to come back to church and knows its what she needs in her life, but she just didnt know how to make it happen on her own. Her and her older brother are the only members in her family, but her brother kinda went anti and isnt interested…Anyway, so we saw her that night and seriously left the house close to tears. Pure joy once again. It was one of those “you were exactly where you were supposed to be” moments. We visited her again later in the week and she told us she got work off on sunday, and that she would be there at church with us! (pause on that story, ill come back to it)
David… Our little 9 year-old boy from the spanish branch who haaad a baptismal date for january. So they started teaching him a couple weeks before i got to the area, and week after week after weeeeek he just would not show up to church!! his parents and two siblings are all members, just less-active. And they just werent showing up. So we had to drop David’s date a couple weeks ago. BUT, the blessings of not giving up. We had two lessons with the kids this week..and they were both so good. So sunday comes along and Sister Cole and I are pacing the chapel waiting for jessica to show up….AND IN WALKS DAVID AND HIS WHOLE FAMILY. best. sight. ever. We had been so used to them NOT showing up that we werent even anticipating them being there. I wanted to cry i was so happy. so we get them all settled in on a pew and sit with them…sacrament meeting starts…..and still, no Jessica. so we shoot her a text…no response…THEN DURING THE SACRAMENT, sis cole whispers to me “sister…….who is that girl sitting up front cause she kinda looks exactly like Jessica…..” At the end of the meeting i went up to give the closing prayer and finally got a good look at the congregation, and yep. it’s Jessica. She came in by her self and we didnt even see her…..So yes, both Jessica and the whole castro family. at church. im pretty sure i was beaming the entire 3 hours.
But wait theres more. So remember the Oliver family that i talked about last week? So we had our first lesson with them last night and it was amazing. We taught the whole family the first lesson and during the whole lesson the parents kept jumping in and bearing powerful testimony… I asked brother and sister Oliver what their family goal is and sister oliver talked about how she’s been married a couple times..she has kids from different marriages, and all she wants is just for her family to be happy and united in the gospel. She said they want to be sealed for time and all eternity. The spirit was so strong. only thing to take care of now is parent permission- turns out brother oliver isnt collin and trevors birth dad…so they have to get permission from their real dad before we can set up a baptismal date. So please please pray that his dad will allow them…they are the coolest family. not to mention the ZOO they have in their house….(pictures to come)
So yeah. some tender mercies and miracles for sure. this is the best experience of my life so far, and every day makes me more and more grateful for the decision that i made to come out and serve the Lord. Its all true!!
sendin my love to you all
